Jenkins on Entitlement and Rationality

Carrie Jenkins (St. Andrews) has posted a very interesting paper on her webpage entitled 'Entitlement and Rationality' which may be of interest to readers of this weblog. Click here to download a pdf version. There's also a discussion of this paper taking place on Carrie's weblog, Long Words Bother Me, just now. Click here.

Pacific APA Symposium on Intellectual Virtue

There's an invited symposium on Intellectual Virtue at the Pacific APA next month that I'm taking part in. I now have two papers from this session, and hope to have all of them at some point, so I thought I'd post the full line-up, with links to the papers I've got so far (I'll update this posting if further papers come in):

Invited Symposium: Intellectual Virtue
Chair: Abrol Fairweather (University of San Francisco)
Speakers: Michael Stocker (Syracuse University)
“Intellectual Emotions (Some Remarks)”
Duncan Pritchard (University of Stirling)
“Virtue Epistemology and Epistemic Luck, Revisited” (pdf)
Robert Roberts (Baylor University) & Jay Wood (Wheaton College) (pdf)
“Virtues and Intellectual Practices”
Commentator: James Montmarquet (Tennessee State University)

The session takes place between 1-4pm on Thursday March 23rd in Broadway IV (PL).

Abridged Pacific APA Programme 2006

I've trimmed the full programme for the Pacific APA in Portland next month so that fellow bloggers will just have events listed of specific interest to those working on epistemic value (I've construed this quite broadly, as you'll see, so that it includes, for example, every event on epistemology). I've posted it on the 'drafts' side-bar, and you can also download it by clicking here. If anyone listed here would like a draft of their paper posted on the blog, then just send it over. I'll also plug the specific session concerned.

Pritchard on Virtue and Luck

I've just posted a draft of a paper entitled 'Virtue Epistemology and Epistemic Luck, Revisited', which I'll be giving as part of an invited session on Intellectual Virtue at the Pacific APA next month. It's posted on the 'drafts' side-bar, and you can also get it by clicking here. This paper revisits an argument from a previous paper of mine, 'Virtue Epistemology and Epistemic Luck', which appeared in Metaphilosophy in 2003 (you can download a copy of this here). All comments gratefully received, as ever.

The other participants in the symposium include Michael Stocker (Syracuse), Jay Wood (Wheaton) & Robert Roberts (Baylor), with James Montmarquet (Tennessee State) commentating and Abrol Fairweather (San Francisco) chairing. I'll invite the other participants to post their papers as well, so watch this space. It takes place between 1-4pm on Thursday March 23rd in Broadway IV (PL).

Incidentally, there's quite a lot on at the Pacific APA that might interest readers of this blog. I'll post a list of relevant events in a separate e-mail.

Wisdom Bibliography

Dennis Whitcomb, a graduate student at Rutgers, has very kindly sent me a bibliography of work on wisdom to post. You can find it on the 'darfts' side-bar, or by clicking here.
