New Paper on Scepticism and Epistemic Value

I've just finished a first draft of my paper, 'Scepticism, Epistemic Luck and Epistemic Value', a version of which I'll be presenting at next year's Joint Session of the Mind and Aristotelian Society (Martijn Blaauw will be be my commentator). If you're interested in looking at this, then it's available here. As always, comments welcome!

Amsterdam & Stirling Conferences

I'm off to Amsterdam for the Value of Knowledge Conference next week, which is organised by the Knowledge, Belief and Normativity Project. The speakers will be Sosa, Goldman, Kvanvig and yours truly, plus a great list of speakers in the open sessions. In case anyone's interested, my paper is available here.

After that, there is the Social Epistemology conference that I'm organsiing at Stirling, with talks by Sosa, Goldman, Kvanvig, both of the Frickers, Lackey, Graham, Lipton, Goldberg and Millar. Drafts of most of the papers are now available on the conference webpage here, and I'm hoping that they all will be pretty soon.

We finally have a webpage up detailing epistemology-related activity at Edinburgh. This is under construction and so will be added to over the next few weeks, but the bare essentials are all there. Click here.

Sosa @ Edinburgh

Ernie Sosa will be visiting Edinburgh's Department of Philosophy this November. As part of his visit, we're hosting a postgraduate conference on Knowledge and Understanding on Tuesday November 13th. Sosa will be the keynote speaker, and I'll be responding to him. The rest of the papers will be PG papers. There is a call for papers on this score. For more information, contact the conference organiser Adam Carter.

If you're in the Edinburgh area, there will also be a reading group on Sosa's forthcoming book organised in preparation for his visit. Just drop me a line if you're interested in coming along to this.

Once I've settled in here, there will be a proper Edinburgh webpage detailing all the forthcoming epistemology-related events that we've got planned.

SCP at the ACPA: Virtue and Value

John Greco (now at SLU don't forget) is currently putting together a session for the Society of Christian Philosophers at the American Catholic Philosophical Association meeting. Jason Baehr will give a paper on open mindedness as an intellectual virtue and Stephen Grimm will give a paper on epistemic value. Daniel Breyer (Fordham) will comment on Jason's paper and I'll be commenting on Stephen's paper.
